TEHRANTIMES - Mehdi Mahdavikia was selected as the Hamburger SV Team of the Century on Saturday.

The 35-year-old attended the Hamburger SV 125th anniversary gala at O2 World in Hamburg, Germany.

Persepolis captain joined Hamburger SV 1999 and parted company with them in 2007.

The Carpet (his nickname in Hamburger) played 208 times for the German team and scored 26 goals.

“It’s a great honor for me to stand alongside the big names such as Uli Stein, Thomas Doll, Rafael van der Vaart, Felix Magath and Uwe Seeler. When I walked on stage I felt the best moment in my career. The fans applauded me even more than my playing time. It’s a great honor to be among the team of the century,” Persepolis captain said.

Another Iranian player Vahid Hashemian also attended the ceremony.  The 36-year-old striker joined Hamburger SV in 1999 from Pas of Iran and left the team two years later for VFL Bochum.

Last season, the two former Iran football team players became teammate once again in Persepolis.
