PTV - Tehran giants Esteqlal and Persepolis have played out a lackluster goalless draw in the sixth week of Iran's Pro League (IPL).
The 75th derby between the archrivals was played before 90,000 fans at Azadi Stadium on Friday evening.
The Reds [Persepolis] showed greater hunger at the outset and created their most serious goal-scoring opportunity just after the half-hour mark.
Ali Karimi played havoc with the Esteqlal defensive line with a solo run, laying a perfect ball for Mohammad Ghazi, but the attacker squandered the opportunity, leaving the scoreline intact.
The Reds also started out on top in the second half, but could not muster a threat on the Esteqlal goal.
Overall, the Blues tried to manage the game, setting their eyes on counter attacks, while the Reds could not convert their possession superiority and scarce chances into hard currency.
With the spoils shared, Esteqlal now perch on the ninth spot with nine points, while Persepolis are 13th with five. Saipa top the 18-team table with 13 points from six games, followed by Malavan with 11 points from five.
