GOAL - The former Bayern Munich attacker admitted he hasn't been in great form this season but rejected claims he has said he will leave Tehran at the end of the campaign
It had been reported that the 33-year-old former Bayern Munich and Schalke attacker said after last week's 1-0 AFC Champions League defeat to Al Hilal that he wouldn't renew his current Persepolis contract which expires at the end of the season.
However, speaking on his own website, Karimi claimed he had no plans to leave the Tehran giants who are sitting down in 15th in the Iranian Pro League after a disastrous 2011-12 campaign.
“I don't know where the story came from, but I have to say I have no plan to quit at the moment,” Karimi said. “Unfortunately, some people quoted me as saying that I was going to quit, but I want to play.
“I have not had good form this season but I can still play. I am better than those who think they are on form."
He added that he felt his comments after the Al Hilal had been misinterpreted.
"After the match against Al Hilal I said that I think it’s time to go, however I didn’t determine the time," he said.
"It seems some people are more interested than me to see me out of the game."
