TEHRANTIMES - Iran finished in fifth place at the 2012 Commonwealth of Independent States Cup on Sunday.

The Persians defeated Lithuania 4-0 in the competitions and came fifth.

Elsewhere, Russia beat Belarus 2-0 in the final game and won the championship.

“Match is a small consolation. Yes, we won, but got only the fifth place. It's not quite fair. We have the best attack line, best defense line and midfielders in this tournament. We scored sixteen goals, and conceded only one. We had to play in the final. But this is football. And it is a great lesson for me,” Iran coach Akbar Mohammadi said.

The best players of the tournament were named:

- The best goal-scorer Sardar Azmoun (Iran)

- The best defender Teplov Artem (Belarus)

- The best midfielder Vasil'ev Nikita (Russia)

- The best forward Butkovskiy Filip (Ukraine)

- The best player of the tournament Bibilov Shota (Russia)

A total of 12 teams, divided into three groups of four took part in the tournament.
