ISNA - Iranian Minister of Youth and Sports Mohammad Abbasi called Bahrain's demand for presence of a security observer in Tehran-Manama upcoming soccer match foolish and funny, saying Iran enjoys the highest security in the region.

He added, “The claim seems to be the continuation of smear campaigns run by the US and its sponsors inside the region to press Bahraini oppressed people.”

Abbasi continued, “Off course, we are not happy with the war that Bahrain is undergoing in which the US and its supporters’ meddling has worsen the situation, but any team scheduled to take part in competitions in Bahrain needs security guarantee.”

Iran is gearing up for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Bahrain which has been scheduled for October 11 at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran. Bahrain football federation has called on FIFA to send a security observer to monitor the play, and FIFA has chosen one.
