Thanh Nien News - Iran and Qatar’s sports academy Aspire will participate in the 2011 Thanh Nien-sponsored U.21 International Football Tournament in Vietnam’s Central Highlands from September 25 till October 4.

Amal Al Hendi, coordinator of Qatar’s sports academy Aspire, on Tuesday sent a letter to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and Thanh Nien newspaper, informing that the academy will send its U19 players to participate in the contest.

The players from Aspire are considered very good players since they beat  their peers from England’s Premier league club, Manchester United, 5-1 in the final of the Milk Cup Premier in July.

The Milk Cup Premier, which began in Northern Ireland in 1983, attracts young teams from around the world, including giants like Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool of England, Barcelona of Spain and Fluminense from Brazil.

Lots of big names who have become very famous like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes all competed in the tournament.

Also on Tuesday, Omid Jamali, who is in charge of international relations at the Iran Football Federation, sent a letter to confirm that Iran will send its U21 team to Vietnam to compete in the the fifth edition of the Thanh Nien-sponsored U21 International Football Tournament.

Iran participated in the tournament for the first time in 2008 and won the championship that year.

Last year, they competed at the Thang Long Cup in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Hanoi and the young Iranians finished second behind the Vietnamese U23 team.
Also on Tuesday, VFF announced an amendment to the rules of the contest.

It will allow substitution of players at any time during the tournament if any player or players have to join their U19 or U23 national teams.
