Hossein Hedayati, the owner of Steel Azin, announced the dissolution of the football club after being defeated 2-1 by Perspolis in the 30th week of the Iran Professional League (IPL).

Perspolis scored their second and winning goal against Steel Azin in injury time, however some observers claimed that this goal was scored with no respect to ""fairplay"". The dubious nature of the goal resulted in an altercation and exchange of blows between the two sides at the end of the match.

With just four weeks to go, Steel Azin is at the bottom of the IPL table with 24 points.

After Hedayati’s decision everyone wants to see what the reaction of IPL officials will be.

On April 30, 2007 Hedayati bought Ekbatan Football Club for a reported price of $750,000 and renamed it Steel Azin. With a strong financial backing and heavy investors behind the team, Steel Azin had promised to be the new heavyweight in the Iranian football scene.
