The Isfahan-based club general manager Mohammad-Reza Saket wrote to his counterpart and invited his team to Iran to play a charity match to raise money for the victims of the recent double natural disasters that hit Japan.
“We feel so sad for what happened in Japan and cordially invite you to come to Isfahan for a charity match. Based on our past cooperation, Sepahan is ready to hold friendlies to raise funds for victims of the country's devastating earthquake and tsunami,” Saket wrote.
Sepahan beat Kawasaki Frontale in the AFC Champions League 2007. The Iranian team defeated Al Wahda of the UAE afterwards and reached the final, but they lost the final to Urawa Red Diamonds.
On March 11 a massive 9 magnitude earthquake shook Japan, the strongest earthquake ever recorded in its history. The quake reportedly killed close to 20,000 people.
The J-League halted after the quake and will resume on April 23.
