GOAL - Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz is expected to sign a three-year deal with Iran later on Monday, and revealed that he's eager to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

Former Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz is on the verge of signing a contract with the Iranian Football Association (FFIRI) for the position of national team coach and revealed that he's filled with ambition over the move.

Queiroz arrived in Teheran on Monday to finalise talks with the FFIRI, and was greeted by a number of journalists and Iranian officials.

"It's my goal to help Iran reach the 2014 World Cup in Brazil," the former Portugal boss was quoted as saying by reporters upon his arrival.

Iran failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa last summer, but did qualify for the 2006 tournament in Germany, where they were eliminated in the group phase.

The 58-year-old is expected to put pen-to-paper later on Monday, and a press conference has been scheduled to take place at 1500 local time, where Queiroz will be officially confirmed as the new coach.
