Carlos Queiroz and António Simões

Trend - Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz announced about his consent to lead the Iranian national football team and provided the Iranian Football Federation (IFF) with a preliminary contract, Director of the IFF International Committee Abbas Torabian was quoted by ISNA, as saying.

He said that Queiroz also announced the names of his aides. One of them is former Portuguese player António Simões.

He said that IFF plans to sign a contract with the Portuguese coach by the end of the week.

Earlier, the website sport360.com reported that Queiroz will be a head coach of the Iranian national team by concluding the three-year-agreement worth $6 million.

Queiroz visited Tehran where he held talks with official representatives of the Iranian team.

In an interview with "Sport360" Queiroz confirmed the fact of holding the negotiations on his appointment.

Carlos Queiroz led the team Sporting (Portugal), Real Madrid (Spain), teams of the UAE and South Africa.

Queiroz was forced to resign due to unsuccessful playing of the team at the World Cup in South Africa, as well as in the qualifying round of European Championship 2012.

Earlier, it was reported that Diego Maradona may lead the national team of Iran.
