MNA - Leicester city manager Sven-Goran Eriksson is a candidate to take over Iran football team, according to the media.

In April, vice president of Iran Football Federation (IFF) Mehdi Taj had said that Eriksson was a candidate to coach Iran, but instead the 62-year-old Swedish took charge of Ivory Coast team in the 2010 World Cup.

The current Iranian coach Afshin Ghotbi is under contract with the IFF until the end of the AFC Asian Cup 2011 and Eriksson is again a candidate to replace him.

Reports say that Ghotbi will coach a J-League Japanese team next season.

Diego Maradona was also considered as a nominee to head the team and the officials announced their desire to hire him, but apparently the former Argentina coach is not interested in leading Iran.
