AFC -  Iran’s 1998 World Cup coach Jalal Talebi has hailed the developments in coach education throughout the continent but has stressed the importance of individuals taking the initiative and ensure they themselves keep up-to-date with the latest coaching developments.

Talebi spoke about the importance of coaches following the latest educational developments ahead of the AFC Asian Coaches Night celebrations at the Marriott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, where the former Syria and Indonesia under 23s boss will be one of 38 coaches receiving the AFC Gold Service Award.

“Knowledge coaches are the main drivers of football development but we coaches should also keep ourselves updated (in developments) like doctors and engineers.

“Asian Coaches Year is a stimulus to all young coaches. Such an event shows that the coaches’ efforts are being seen by others. We coaches are followed no matter where we are.

“I would like to thank the AFC for appreciating Asian coaches regardless of the results.”

The former Iran international midfielder, whose introduction to coaching began with a course conducted at English Premier League side Chelsea after a knee injury ended his playing days, added that the happiest moments of his career have come when at the helm of youth teams.

“My biggest ambition has been teaching youth and helping them become stars. Seeing their improvement has given me the most enjoyment in my career.”
