GOAL - The Nigerian Football Federation has reportedly cancelled Wednesday's friendly against Iran.

According to a number of reports from Iran, the NFF (Nigerian Football Federation) has made the decision to cancel the upcoming international friendly between Iran and Nigeria which was supposed to take place on Wednesday.

The NFF has reportedly sent the FFIRI (Iranian Football Federation) a letter to explain their decision to cancel the friendly match between the two teams.

Neither the NFF nor the FFIRI has so far released a statement to confirm the postponement of Wednesday's game and it remains unclear as to why the Nigerians have decided to cancel the friendly.

However, it appears likely that the political tensions between Iran and Nigeria played a big role in the decision. Nigeria's foreign minister Odein Ajumogobia recently said Nigeria will report Iran to the UN Security Council if an investigation shows it violated international law and UN sanctions in an arms smuggling case.

Iran coach Afshin Ghotbi is reportedly eager to continue his side's training camp, as Iran's national team members will now play each other on Wednesday.
