MNA - Esteghlal captain Farhad Majidi pulled out of Iran football team in order to give young players a chance to show their talent.

Majidi had recently been invited to Iran football team by coach Afshin Ghotbi to play in the 6th West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship.

The 33-year-old player had been disregarded by the Iranian football officials during past months and was not invited to Iran football team in the recent friendly matches against Armenia, China and South Korea.

“Iran football team doesn’t need me. I am retiring from the team so young players have a chance to gain experience for the future,” Majidi said after Esteghlal’s 3-2 victory over Saipa at the Azadi Stadium.

Majidi has 43 caps and scored 10 goals for Iran football team.
