The coach of the Greek side, former Villarreal boss Ernesto Valverde, has asked to club to bring in the talented 29-year-old to strengthen the squad. Olympiacos began negotiations for the player several weeks ago, and it seems the Spanish club are now resigned to losing the former Al-Wahda man.
Nekounam made 29 appearances and found the back of the net three times in La Liga last season. He has an impressive 109 caps and 25 goals for Iran at international level.
He reportedly showed up four days late for pre-season training back in July and only has one year remaining on his current contract in Pamplona.
