MNA - Ghotbi will carry on as Iran’s national team football coach in the 2011 AFC Asian Cup , president of the Iran Football Federation (IFF) confirmed on Sunday.

In the past few days the media repeatedly reported that IFF officials were going to change the current Iranian coach and replace him with a well-known foreign manager.
Sven-Goran Eriksson, who has been appointed as the Ivory Coast coach, and former Turkey manager Fatih Terim were among the candidates to take charge of the team.

Despite the intense speculations, Ali Kaffashian confirmed that Ghotbi will continue as coach and his position is secure.

“Ghotbi will be Iran coach until the end of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup. However, he must take advice from the technical committee,” he added.

Ghotbi had stated in a letter on Tuesday he will not work with a foreign coach and requested the IFF to be clear on this matter.
