In the match played at the Azadi Stadium in front of approximately 10,000 spectators, Esteghlal defeated Steel Azin 2-0 and repeated the first leg result.
Mehdi Seyyed-Salehi headed the ball into Steel Azin’s goal in the 72nd minute following a pass from Siavash Akbarpour.
Esteghlal’s Pejman Montazeri hit the second goal also with a header four minutes later. He received a superb cross from Khosro Heydari and opened the empty goal.
“This win surely eased the pressure on our shoulders. I am satisfied with the way we played against Steel Azin,” Estghlal coach Samad Marfavi said in a post-match news conference.
Esteghlal now has 37 points from 24 matches.
Sepahan of Isfahan is on the summit of the IPL standings table with 48 points with one game in hand. Zob Ahan sits second with 45 points.
