MNA - Former Iran coach Ali Daei was officially appointed as Persepolis football coach on Monday.
Daei has closed an 18 months contract with Persepolis. The 40-year-old coach replaced Croat Zlatko Kranjcar who failed to see out the remaining six months of his contract with Persepolis.

“I am here to help Persepolis come back on track. The team has good potential and we have to book a berth in next year’s Asian Champions League,” Daei said in the news conference held at the Persepolis club.

Daei, who played for Persepolis during 1994 to 1996 and 2003 to 2004, has yet to choose his assistants.

Daei was sacked from Iran national team in March following disappointing results in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

“I wish Kranjcar all the best. I am so sad because we were forced to part company with him, but I think we need a shock to get better results,” Persepolis general manager Habib Kashani stated.
