“Iran will definitely participate in the four-team tournament in Qatar,” the IFF Vice President, Mehdi Taj, told IRINN on Friday.
“It is necessary for Iran to partake in such tournaments to assess the team's weak points in friendly games,” he added.
Taj further emphasized that the Iranian manager Afshin Qotbi wouldn't be sacked if Iran is defeated in friendlies.
According to the sports official, the Iranian outfit would leave for Qatar on Thursday.
Iran will compete with Mali, North Korea and hosts Qatar in the tournament scheduled for 27 December to 2 January.
Iran is preparing for its AFC cup qualification matches against Singapore at the Bishan Stadium on January 6 and Thailand at the Azadi Stadium in March.
