Tehran - Tehran favorite football teams lost to their rivals in the 17th week of the Iran Professional League (IPL) on Saturday.

Sepahan beat 10-man Persepolis in Isfahan and reclaimed the top place of the IPL rankings. Ibrahima Toure gave the lead to Sepahan in the 26th minute. Persepolis captain Sheys Rezaei was sent off in the 35th minute.

The Tehran favorite team equalized the match 15 minutes into the second half by Sepehr Heidari.

Referee Hedayatollah Mombeini announced a penalty kick in the 69th minute in favor of Persepolis but Adel Kolahkaj failed to take advantage of it and score a goal.

Sepahan sealed the victory when Hadi Aghily scored a penalty kick goal in the 90th minute. The referee awarded another penalty kick to the visitors but Hadi Norouzi failed to defeat Sepahan keeper Mehdi Rahmati in the added time.

Sepahan reclaimed the top place with 34 points. Persepolis has 26 points.

Esteghlal , another Tehran favorite team, was defeated 3-2 by Paykan at the Azadi Stadium. Amir Hossein Sadeghi put the Blues in the lead in the 16th minute. Paykan strikers Saeid Daghighi and Majid Khoda-Bandelou put the visiting teams in the lead. Esteghlal’s Hossein Kazemi equalized the match in the 66th minute but three minutes later Hamid Hedayati scored the winning goal for Paykan.

Paykan moved up to the third place with 28 points. Esteghlal is fourth with 27 points
