MNA - Iran football team will play Macedonia in preparation for the 2011 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

Afshin Ghotbi’s team will face its rival in a friendly on November 18 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.

The match will be played four days before Jordan plays against Iran in the second leg of the Asian Cup Qualifiers.

“Macedonia was chosen among Ukraine, Lithuania, Albania and Guatemala. Ukraine would have been a better choice, but they were not available. Ukraine will be playing Greece in the play-off to book a place in the 2010 World Cup on November 14 and 18,” Mehdi Mohammad Nabi, secretary-general of Iran’s Football Federation said.

Iran is drawn in Group Five of the 2010 Asian Cup Qualifiers along with Singapore, Thailand and Jordan. Iran leads the group with four points.
