“I talked to Ciro about joining Persepolis and he encouraged me to work in Iran,” Kranjcar said.
“I will be assisted in Persepolis by my homeland coaches. My contract with Persepolis has not yet been signed but it will be finalized soon,” the 53-year-old coach added.
Asked about the financial details of the contract, Kranjcar said, “I cannot talk about that.”
Zlatko Kranjcar was appointed as Persepolis coach on Wednesday. The Croat said he consulted with Iran’s former coach, who failed to steer the Persians to World Cup 2002, to lead Persepolis.
Kranjcar began his career with Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 10 and stayed in the club until 1983. The Croat appeared in a total of 556 matches for the club and scored 98 goals in the championships.
He has already coached Dinamo Zagreb, Streda and Emirati Al-Shaab.
The Tehran-based team had held negotiations with Spaniard Benito Floro Sanz, German Klaus Toppmoller, Croat Luka Peruzovic and Branko Ivankovic, Dutch Wim Rijsbergen , Argentine Osvaldo Cesar Ardiles and Ukrainian Oleg Blokhin.
Persepolis is scheduled to play Mes on August 6 in Kerman’s Shahid Bahonar Stadium in the Iran Professional League opener.
