MNA - Persepolis midfielder Ali Karimi was voted on late Monday in a television poll as the best player of the year in the Iran Professional League (IPL).

Karimi came in first place with 51% of the votes, followed by Esteghlal midfielder Khosro Heydari who scored 24% of the votes. Arash Borhani of Esteghlal ranked 3rd with 17% as Mes goalkeeper Mehdi Rahmati and Zob Ahan striker Mohammadreza Khal’atbari came fourth and fifth each with 4%.

Approximately 2.5 millions fans participated in the poll.

Karimi, who is a former Bayern Munich player, scored a late goal against arch-rival Esteghlal in the IPL first leg and helped Persepolis secure a 1-1 draw in the second leg.
