MNA - Iranian football veteran Mehdi Mahdavikia says that newly-appointed national team coach Mohammad Mayelikohan has his work cut out for him in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

The 31-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder, who has 106 caps, did a pretty good job in the match against Saudi Arabia in spite of Iran’s 2-1 defeat at
Azadi Stadium on March 27.

“Iran’s football team is in a bad situation in the qualifiers at the moment. Hopefully Mayelikohan will help the team qualify for the World Cup. He has a hard job in the three remaining matches,” Mahdavikia said on Sunday.

“Our main goal is to get good results in the upcoming matches and all of us must help Mayelikohan succeed,” Iran’s captain added.

Eintracht Frankfurt suffered a heavy 4-0 loss against Bayern Munich on Saturday. Mahdavikia said, “Bayern deservedly won the match. Playing against Bayern at the Alians Arena is very difficult. Anyhow, we have to forget this defeat because Eintracht is scheduled to play Monchengladbach next week and we have to focus on the must-win game.”
