IPL leaders defeated mid-table Malavan at the Azadi Stadium in front of more than 30,000 spectators.
Arash Borhani gave Esteghlal the lead in the 32nd minute. Khosro Heidari crossed well to the near post and under pressure Borhani stretched out his right leg to shoot past Malavan keeper.
Esteghlal’s top scorer saw himself on the score sheet four minutes later. Captain Farhad Majidi sent an accurate cross into the penalty box and Borhani scored with a header.
Brazilian Fabio Johnvario netted Esteghlal’s third goal in the 79th minute with a well-aimed free kick.
Esteghlal stay on top with 61 points, followed by Zob Ahan and Mes with 60 and 52 points respectively.
