Rutemoller promoted to Iran head coach
PTV - German Erich Rutemoller will temporarily take over from Ali Daei to lead Iran's national soccer team until the IFF appoints a new manager.
Rutemoller, who has been Daei's assistant since January, was named by Iran's Football Federation (IFF) as the national team's head coach on Sunday.
Daei was sacked after Iran suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Saudi Arabia in its fifth World Cup qualifier on Saturday. Iran is in the second place in World Cup qualifiers Group B with six points out of its five matches.
Rutemoller, 64, will sit on the bench in Wednesday's friendly against Senegal. He told German tabloid Bild that he had no idea how long he would remain as interim coach.
The IFF has begun negotiations to appoint permanent Daei's successor. Former Persepolis manager Afshin Qotbi, Esteqlal's Amir Qalenoi and Saipa manager Mohammad Mayelikohan are considered possible candidates to take over as Iran coach. The latter two have formerly led Iran's national team, and have been sacked for poor results.
