The veteran midfielder, who returned to the national team after seven years with designs of helping Iran to qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, said he has to concentrate on the Persepolis matches in the Iranian Professional League and the Asian Champions League.
“I’ve decided to retire from the national team because I am not in good form at the moment; I’ve talked to Ali Daei about my decision. I believe that I have made the best decision and hope to rejoin the national team soon,” Bagheri said.
Bagheri has won 86 caps for Iran and scored 50 goals.
