PTV - Three prominent Palestinian football players and their families have fallen victims to the Israeli attacks on the beleaguered Gaza Strip.

A former player of the Palestinian national team, Ayman al Kurd, 28, and his three children were killed by an Israeli shelling two days ago, said a Palestine Football Association (PFA) statement on Wednesday.

"His martyrdom is a great loss to Palestinian football. His colleagues are in shock," Ghassan Balawi, a former coach of the Palestinian soccer team, told Reuters in Ramallah.

The PFA also announced the death of 24-year-old Wajih Mushtahi, a player of the Palestinian Olympic soccer team.

The Israeli attacks also resulted in the death of Shadi Sbakhe, a member of the Khadamat Alniserat club and a former player of the Palestinian national team.

Gaza's Rafah Stadium, which is the home ground of the Ahli Alenserat Club - a top club for the Palestinian League -, was also extensively damaged by the Israeli incursion.

Since Israel unleashed its air and sea campaign against Gaza on December 27, at least 1,100 Palestinians have lost their lives and more than 4,700 others have been injured -- a majority of the victims has been civilians.

According to Hamas officials, during the 20-day attack on Gaza, around 34 Israeli soldiers have been killed and 96 others wounded. The Israeli military, however, puts the death toll at 12.
