MNA - Two goals from Moharram Navidkia and Ali Alizadeh (own goal) has led Sepahan football team to an important victory against the Iran Professional League (IPL) leader Esteghlal here on Tuesday.
Navidkia’s 10th minute long-range shot past Esteghlal keeper Vahid Taleblu. Sepahan’s captain has recently returned to the field from a longtime back injury.
Alizadeh’s header doubled the score in the 25th minute and made conditions difficult for the visitors.
Farhad Kazemi’s side put Esteghlal under pressure but failed to take advantage of their chances.
Esteghlal was the better team after the interval. The Tehrani team pulled a goal back in the 74th minute. Arash Borhani’ s header raised Esteghlal hopes but they could not level the match. Sepahan’s Mehdi Jafarpour was shown his second yellow card in the 81st minute but the result didn’t change and the clock ran out.
Esteghlal still stays on top with 37 points, followed by Zob Ahan with the same points and a match in hand.
