Shams to take Iran to World Cup final
PTV - The Iranian national futsal coach, Hossein Shams, has said he would try his utmost to help the national team reach the World Cup final.
Shams made the remarks following the extension of his contract with Iran's Football Federation (IFF) for four more years on Wednesday.
"My dearest wish is to take the Iranian side to the next World Cup final," Shams said.
"Some other qualified players will be invited to the team to show a great performance against Brazil," he added.
Iran will play two friendlies against the 2008 World Cup futsal champion Brazil in the capital Tehran on March 10th and 11th.
"Iran is also scheduled to play two other friendly games against Slovenia on March 14th and 15th," the coach explained.
Shams later called Iran's veteran player Vahid Shamsaei an exception in the country's futsal team and said, "Although he is 33 years old, he was chosen as Asian player of the year in 2008. We might use him in the next World Cup if he maintains his abilities and motivation."
Shams has so far managed to lead Iran's national futsal team to two consecutive AFC Championships.
Iran, coached by Shams, advanced to the 2008 Futsal World Cup quarterfinals in October after displaying brilliant performances, which resulted in Iran being voted as the most impressive team in the tournament.
