Clemente axed
thinkSPAIN - Former Spain coach, Javier Clemente, has been sacked from his job at Murcia CF coinciding with the recent departure from the board of the Samper brothers. His replacement will be reserve team coach, José Miguel Campos, and Juan Guillamón has taken over as the club's president.
Clemente, who was the most successful Spanish manager ever until Luis Aragonés, made his name as a coach at Athletic Bilbao, taking them to a Liga and Cup double in 1984, and also spent time at Espanyol, Atlético Madrid, Betis, Tenerife, Real Sociedad, Olympique Marseilles, Serbia and, for a very brief spell, Iran.
He took over the reins at Murcia during last season, but was unable to save them from relegation and they are currently languishing third from bottom of the Spanish second division five points from safety.
