MNA - Iran football midfielder Mehdi Mahdavikia said on Wednesday that he is set to hand back the captain’s armband to Bagheri.
“I will hand back the captain’s armband to Karim Bagheri in an honorable manner. I am so pleased to see Bagheri in the national team after seven years. He has played so well in Persepolis in recent years. Karim is a great player who deserves to wear the armband,” said Iran’s second skipper.

By defeating the UAE in Dubai on November 19 Iran will hopefully pave its way to the 2010 World Cup, added Mahdavikia.

Asked about his lack of presence in Eintracht Frankfurt in Bundesliga, the winger added, “I am determined to prove myself on the field. I have not had the opportunity to show my capabilities as much as I wanted. I would like to see myself as one of coach Friedhelm Funkel’s main players soon.”
