10-man Esteghlal beat Peykan 3-2 in the 12th
week of the Iranian Professional League (IPL) in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on
Monday.
Saeid Lotfi Peykan defender, former Esteghlal player, scored the first goal
of the match in the 23rd minute, putting a ball into Esteghlal’s net across
the goal line.
10 minutes later, referee Saeid Mozaffarizadeh showed the penalty spot after
Khosro Heidari was brought down by Peykan defender. Arash Borhani converted
the penalty kick to equal the game.
Borhani’s header put Esteghlal into the lead in the 38th minute in front of
about 30,000 fans.
Borhani completed his hat-trick in the 42nd minute, receiving a cross from
Mojtaba Jabbari from edge of the six yards zone and scored with a acrobatic
right-footed volley.
Yadollah Akbari was sent off eight minutes into the second half, collecting
his second yellow card. Shortly after, Peykan was dominant team and put the
hosts under pressure.
Iman Heydari finally pulled a goal back in the 80th minute but it was not
enough to prevent the visiting team defeat.
Esteghlal is placed third in IPL standing with 21 points, behind Peykan and
Zob Ahan of Isfahan with 24 and 25 points respectively.
