AFC – Iran edged hosts Jordan
8-7 in extra-time to claim the inaugural WAFF (West Asian Football
Federation) Women’s Futsal Championship title after a thrilling final in
Amman.
Four goals in the first ten minutes of play saw the two evenly matched sides
go into the interval on level terms before the scoring stepped up a gear in
the second-half, with Jordan’s Stephanie Al Naber completing her hat-trick
and Iran’s Sohila Molmole Taraze scoring in the 39th minute as regulation
time ended six-all.
Al Naber gave the hosts the advantage when she made it 7-6 to Jordan three
minutes into extra-time but Somayeh Javarsi swung the contest in Iran’s
favour when she netted the equaliser 60 seconds later before scoring the
decider after 49 minutes of play.
Syria finished third after defeating Palestine 4-2 in the third place
play-off held earlier at the Al Hussein City Sports Palace.
