MNA - Former Iranian soccer
team coach says he disagrees with the expression “soccer is war”.
“Soccer is not war but it is an honorable competition. I weep when some
Iranian experts compare it to war,” Mohammad Mayeli-Kohan told reporters on
Monday night at the Shahid Avini Cultural Center.
Soccer is a divine gift which is made for reconciliation and we have to
learn how to make use of it properly, he added.
Mayeli-Kohan’s side came in third in the 1996 Asian Nations Cup. Iran
defeated Kuwait in a penalty shoot-out in the UAE and finished third in the
tournament.
