Gilan has defeated Tehran-based Esteghlal 1-0 in the first leg of the Iran’s
League Cup final here at the Sardar-e Jangal Stadium on Monday.
Akvestni Gilauri gave his plucky team a lead in the 40th minute with a free
kick in front of 20,000 spectators.
Two teams had some opportunities after interval but neither could score.
Newly-appointed Esteghlal coach Amir Ghale-Noei has a difficult task in the
second leg which is slated for June 16 in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
Esteghlal is the most successful team in the Iran’s League Cup with four
titles.
