AFC - Defending Iran Pro
League champions Saipa’s domestic woes deepened on Friday when they lost
their second consecutive game, this time to Bargh 2-0.
Saipa, who are leading the AFC Champions League Group B with seven points,
three more than Iraq’s Al Quwa Al Jawiya, fell behind to a Mehdi Karimian
strike in the 70th minute and Mohammad Afand doubled the lead six minutes
later.
Ali Daei’s charges, who lost to lowly Sanat-Naft last week by the same
scoreline, will host the Iraqi outfit on April 23. The Iranian team won
their away game 1-0 earlier this month.
The loss saw Saipa slip to 12th position in the Iran Pro League standings
with 35 points with six more games to go while fellow ACL side Sepahan are
on top with 50 points.
