PTV – Israeli circles in
Argentina have attacked Maradona for expressing his desire to meet with
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
The Argentinean Zionist community started a propaganda campaign against the
international soccer star after Diego Maradona told the Iranian Ambassador
to Buenos Aires Mohsen Baharvand that he would like to meet Ahmadinejad,
Farsnews reported.
During the meeting, which took place a month ago, the legendary Argentinean
soccer player inscribed a T-shirt for the Iranian nation, which read 'With
all my affection to the Iranian people'.
"I am with the Iranian people, from the bottom of my heart, I support them.
I have already met [Cuban President] Fidel [Castro], [Venezuelan President
Hugo] Chavez, now I just wanted to meet your President, Ahmadinejad," said
Maradona.
Israeli groups in Argentina, inflamed by the player's interest in meeting
Ahmadinejad, have tried to put Maradona under pressure by talking about the
Holocaust and the attack on the Buenos Aires AMIA Jewish community center in
1994.
Reacting strongly to Maradona's remarks, the Chair of the Delegation of
Israeli Associations of Argentina (DAIA) Aldo Donzis has even advised
Maradona to visit the Holocaust Museum in Buenos Aires.
