GOAL – Iran Pro League side
Mes have named Amir Ghalenoei as the new head coach. The ex-Iran national
team coach will take charge of the club for the rest of the season.
Mes have earlier appointed former Iraq coach Jorvan Vieira as its coach to
replace the previous manager, Farhad Kazemi, who had left to join first
division side Estil Azin. The Brazilian, however, stayed at the club for
only a few days before announcing his departure from the club.
According to the Mes officials, Vieira's contract was terminated due to
financial reasons.
Ghalenoei, on the other hand, was in negotiations with Uzbek outfit
Pakhtakor. The 43-year-old has recently agreed terms with the club. However,
he will begin work in June. Mes, therefore, have turned to Ghalenoei to
coach the club until he leaves for Uzbekistan.
He led Iran during the 2006 World Cup in Germany with high expectations from
the fans. Poor results in the tournament, however, resulted in his
subsequent termination. The former Iranian international has also coached
Esteghlal between 2003 to 2006.
