PTV - Muslim youngster, who is a member of the
Jersey team, has been barred from playing soccer while wearing hijab in the
US.
Iman Khalil has been playing competitive league soccer for two years and has
worn her scarf at every game. She wears the same red jersey and the same
shorts.
On Saturday, she went to the play ground, hoping she will be an effective
player for her team. To her astonishment, the young referee told her she had
to take off her scarf or sit out the game.
A previous US Soccer Association ruling decided that religious articles can
be worn if they don't pose a safety hazard.
According to US Soccer, players are only allowed to wear a standard uniform,
like jerseys, shorts, shoes and anything extra is not allowed.
However, in 2002 they sent a memo stating that certain religions that
require members to wear head coverings have permission to do so.
