AFC - The AFC Legal Committee met here for the
last time this year and discussed a host of issues concerning member
associations, including probable FIFA sanctions against Iran.
In his opening speech, AFC President Mohamed Bin Hammam congratulated the
committee’s performance in dealing successfully with the prickly legal
issues involving member associations, clubs matches and players.
On Iran, Bin Hammam said: “A decision from FIFA concerning the Iranian
Football Federation is expected today (November 22). We are of course
waiting for the official notice from FIFA and will be able to comment only
after we get it.”
The AFC chief stressed that the situation could be resolved if Iran reacted
positively to the suggestions FIFA is expected to provide. “The door will be
open to them (Iran FF) to rectify the current situation.”
The committee also proposed an amendment to the principle of geographical
rotation which governs the hosting of the AFC Asian Cup and AFC Challenge
Cup currently.
Furthermore, the committee decided to assess the membership application of
the Northern Mariana Islands based on key Vision Asia aspects like league
competition, clubs, youth and women’s football.
