MNA – Iran’s football team
is scheduled to depart here for Tehran Friday after it was eliminated
from the 2006 World Cup finals.
The Iranian side made an embarrassing exit from the prestigious event
with two first-round 3-1 and 2-0 losses to Mexico and Portugal and one
1-1 draw with debutant Angola in the Group D games.
The team’s poor performance prompted the country’s Physical Education
Organization (PEO) to announce the ouster of Football Federation
president Mohammad Daadkan immediately after Iran-Angola match
Wednesday.
Portugal and Mexico advanced to the last 16 and Angola was also knocked
out of the tournament as the third-placed side.
