FIFAWORLDCUP - FIFA has suspended Angola
defender Yamba Asha for 30 days after he failed a drugs test and could ban
him for longer if his second sample also proves positive.
A FIFA spokesman confirmed a disciplinary case had been opened after tests
on a sample supplied by the left-back following a FIFA World Cup™ qualifier
against Rwanda in October.
Angola won the match in Kigali 1-0 to secure a first appearance at the FIFA
World Cup finals. A second sample is to be tested before any further FIFA
action.
If found guilty of using the banned substance, details of which were not
given, Yamba Asha could be suspended and miss next year's finals in Germany.
Yamba Asha's temporary suspension started on 4 November and meant he missed
his club AS Aviacao's win over InterClube in the Angolan Cup final last
Friday. The 29-year-old defender also missed out on his 50th cap on
Wednesday when Angola were beaten 1-0 by Japan in a friendly in Tokyo.
Yamba Asha played all but five minutes of the 12 matches Angola contested to
qualify for the FIFA World Cup.
