
Doha – The toss for the football and handball
competitions of the West Asian Championship, which is supposed to be held in
the Qatari capital next December 1-10, has been made.
In football, the participating teams have been distributed to three groups.
The first group included Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Syria. Their matches would
be played on Qatar Sports Club stadium.
The second group included the teams of Iran, the UAE, and Iraq on Al Gharafa
Club stadium. The third group included the teams of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and
Palestine on Al Rayan stadium.
The Qatari team would play the opening match against Syria on Qatar stadium
on December1.
It is worth mentioning that the head of the Emirati federation Yusuf Al
Serkal confirmed that the UAE would not participate in the championship, "as
the participating teams would not bring their first division teams."
Al Serkal pointed out that he informed the Emirati Olympic committee of the
decision. He pointed out that the latter would address the Qatari Olympic
committee in this regard.
As regards the handball competitions, the participating teams were
distributed to two groups. The first group included Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain
and Saudi Arabia. The second group included Syria, Iran, Oman and Jordan.
Qatar is playing the opening match against Saudi Arabia on the first day of
the championship.
