Newkerala - A Real Madrid football school
opened Sunday in Bam in southeast Iran, where over 30,000 people were killed
in the 2003 quake.
The city's sporting authorities and the Spanish giants inked a contract
earlier this year to provide free football education to the orphans of Bam.
Real Madrid will provide the quake-hit city with sports equipment and even
send Spanish educators for the kids as well as local football coaches.
Despite two years of local and international efforts, the reconstruction of
the almost-devastated city is not complete and most residents continue to
live in container-like prefabricated houses.
