Gulf-news - Iranian striker Farhad Majidi
scored four goals to lead Al Wasl to the President's Cup pre-quarterfinals.
They crushed Al Orouba of Fujairah 6-1 in the first match of the tournament
held at Khalifa bin Zayed stadium.
Farhad entered the Al Wasl greats club when he netted the four goals against
Al Orouba, his goals tally climbing to 103 during the five seasons he played
for Al Wasl. Farhad joined former Al Wasl greats Zuhair Bakhit and Fahd
Khamis who both scored more than 100 goals.
Al Wasl dominated the match despite Al Orouba opening the score in the 30th
minute through Omar Saeed. Farhad levelled for Al Wasl in the 35th minute
with a clever free kick. Farhad scored the second two minutes after the
break and Matouq Saeed added the third in the 52nd. Eissa Ali hit the fourth
in the 62nd minute.
Farhad completed the rout by scoring the fifth and sixth goals in the 76th
and 87th minute.
For the second match in a row, Al Wasl lost their goalkeeper through a red
card.
Missed penalty
In their league match last week against Al Wahda, Majeed Naser was issued
his marching orders in the last minute.
Against Al Orouba, Al Wasl custodian Ahmad Salim was shown the red card in
the 65th minute and penalised with a penalty kick due to a harsh foul on
Ahmad Jasim, the Al Orouba striker.
But the Al Wasl reserve keeper Salah Hussain who played in place of Salim,
saved the penalty.
