GOAL - Javad Nekounam, Iran’s star midfielder,
is on the brink of joining Bundesliga outfit FC Kaiserslautern.
The German club has agreed a deal with the 24 year-old international but
have yet to conclude a deal with his club Pas.
FC Kaiserslautern boss Rene C Jaeggi said: “We have agreed to a deal with
the player. However the club , which has the player under contract until
2006, has not yet accepted our offer.”
Teheran-based Pas are in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League and
would like the player, capped 66 times for his country, to stay in the
Iranian capital.
However, it is believed that a fee will be agreed with in the next couple of
days.
If the deal goes through as expected, Nekounam, linked with Tottenham
Hotspur earlier in the summer, will team-up with compatriot Fereydoon Zandi.
