IRNA - A spokesperson for German
Bundesliga club FC Kaiserslautern said there are ongoing talks between
German-Iranian idfield star Fereydoon Zandi and Iran`s Football
Federation regarding a possible call-up for the Iranian national
football team.
FC Kaiserslautern spokesman Michael Novak confirmed to IRNA on Friday
that negotiations between Zandi and the Iranian federation were
continuing but refused to give further details on the sensitive talks.
Iranian national team coach Branco Ivankovic has repeatedly voiced hope
Zandi would finally decide to play for his father`s homeland.
There had been contradictory reports in the German media about Zandi`s
degree of interest in playing for Iran.
The 24-year old Zandi, whose father is Iranian and mother is German, was
reportedly having second doubts over his teaming with Iran.
FIFA rule changes would allow the former member of Germany`s under-21
national football squad to play for Iran`s A-team during the second
stage of the 2006 World Cup qualifying phase.
