Berlin - German national football team substitute goalie Jens Lehmann is to replace Oliver Kahn as the starting goalie for the October 9 friendly match against Iran at Tehran's Azadi stadium, the private sports television network DSF reported here Monday.

It quoted German national team head coach Juergen Klinsmann as saying that Lehmann would get his chance to be in the starting line-up.

"That's quite possible," Klinsmann was cited as saying. He added it was "more fair to set a signal (for Lehmann) which would say: You are getting your chance".

A starting goalie for English championship club Arsenal London, Lehmann has been in a fierce battle with Kahn for the goalkeeping position ahead of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
