AFC – Striker Shahab Yanpi scored a
hat-trick as Iran booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the AFC U-17
Championship with a 5-0 destruction of Malaysia in a Group C clash at the
Nihondaira Stadium on Tuesday.
Iran narrowly edged out India 1-0 in their opening match but had few
problems against Malaysia after racing out to a 2-0 lead after just 11
minutes.
Hossein Fatahi found the net after five minutes and Yanpi added Iran’s
second six minutes later as the Middle Eastern side quickly took control.
Hossen Assakereh made it 3-0 in the 67th minute before Yanpi scored two
quick goals in the final three minutes to seal the emphatic win.
With maximum points from two games, Iran are already through to the last
eight in the tournament despite still having one more first round match to
play against Kuwait on Thursday.
